Look at this amazing gem we found- an antique bus!
An antique UM bus that’s converted into a cool Airbnb

This new Airbnb is the latest attraction in University of Malaya and it should definitely be on the top of your go-to list this year. The antique bus was abandoned in the campus for a long time has been restored and transformed into a stunning Airbnb accommodation.

The idea sparked when the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UM saw the antique bus during a visit and asked if there was any use for the bus. So, it gave them the idea to refurbish it.
The Airbnb UM Bus is located at the compound of Rumah No. 2

The antique bus was taken to a house compound called Rumah No. 2 near the Language and Linguistic Faculty. Rumah No. 2 is situated right outside the University of Malaya campus and on weekdays, the bungalow is used as the headquarters for environmental education projects.
Besides, a room in the bungalow has also been converted into an Airbnb where guests can booking at the Airbnb site. The management of the house mentioned that the proceeds from the room rental will be used to fund their projects.
Enjoy a relaxing stay in a nature-inspired compound

The Airbnb allows guests to live in a nature-inspired compound which has an edible garden where guests can explore and also a few rabbits and chickens.

Furthermore, the bus is equipped with a queen-sized bed, a small pantry, working space and also air-conditioning. The toilet however is located in the bungalow which is just less than 50 metre away from the bus.
Accessible to many places of interest

The location of the Airbnb is quiete strategic as it is situated near a few malls, restaurants and also the University of Malaya medical centre. However, the location is still quiet and tranquil. If you wish to use public transport during your stay, the place is also accessible by public transport and it’s easy to book e-hailing.
The idea to transform the bus was created in 2013

According to Universiti Malaya’s Master of Science student, Siti Norasiah Abd Kadir, the idea to refurbish the bus was taken off the road in 2013. “The university had initially wanted to dispose of the old bus in 2016 that has been stranded on campus for many years.”

However, the university’s former Deputy Vice-Chancellor knew of two groups in the university’s Sustainability and Living Labs Secretariat – Water Warriors and the Rimba Project that had been advocating sustainability initiatives in the university and asked if they could do something with the bus.
Since the opening of the Airbnb bus early this month, the response has been overwhelming. The cost of booking the bus is around RM 90 per night.
