Before setting up MediCap Sdn Bhd in 2017, founder and executive director Lim Chin Hau had amassed more than 10 years’ experience in medical education consultancy. He had been assisting Malaysian students to study medicine abroad through Global Academy Consultant Sdn Bhd – a medical education consultancy service provider.
“In 2016, Malaysia Ministry of Health decided to implement the contract doctor policy to the graduates. Meaning, they are not guaranteed to get job placement in our government hospitals. I think it is my responsibility to help them,” he explained.
That is where MediCap Sdn Bhd – a healthcare centre that introduces a new direction of the medical industry towards the combination of invasive and non-invasive practice – comes in.
MediCap: Revolutionise the modern medicine landscape in Malaysia
Founded in 2017, the business has carved out a place for itself by being part of the evolution of the medical landscape that other big healthcare centres are seldom interested in.
The first step MediCap took was opening a 3-in-1 healthcare hub in Sibu, Sarawak, in 2019 – dedicated to providing healthcare services to the local people.
“It was very successful. Other local investors started noticing us and we chose to open our second branch in Sarikei. We found out that there were close to 200 patients in Sarikei who need dialysis treatment. However, the closest dialysis centre is in Sibu that took around 2 hours drive. It was a very clear reason why MediCap needs to focus in rural areas and improve the healthcare in Malaysia,” he explained.
Enlarging the footprint
The company has grown into one of the leading health & wellness institutions in Malaysia. Since its first 3-in-1 concept (general practitioner clinic, wellness centre, dialysis centre) healthcare hub in Sibu, Sarawak, its presence has also grown in major cities in West Malaysia.
Currently, MediCap 3-in-1 healthcare hub is present in Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu and one in Kluang, Johor that is still under renovation. MediCap has also introduced a 5-in-1 healthcare hub concept (additional two more disciples; dental care clinic and skin rejuvenation centre) that is expected to open soon in Puchong, Selangor. Besides, they also have a mini medical centre in Kota Bahru – totalling three private medical centres in Kelantan.
MediCap is committed to revolutionising the modern medical landscape in Malaysia which they have successfully done by bringing in technology from Japan – Nailfold Capillaroscopy Microcirculation Microscope or also known as Blood Vessel Analysis. They have also introduced other technology from Germany and all over the world.
Reaching new heights
When WargaBiz spoke to Lim Chin Hau about MediCap’s future plans, he predicted sustained growth in the healthcare sector, especially in Malaysia.
“In the next few years, we expect to open ten 3-in-1 health centres phase-by-phase. We also have spotted the opportunity to set up an integrated medical complex and wellness resort,” Lim hinted at future expansion plans for MediCap.
“To move at such a rapid pace, we need additional funds. This is the first time MediCap get into the Equity Crowdfunding programme – organised by Mystart Sdn Bhd. We need to raise RM 10,000,000 to expand our company as in expediting the execution of our major projects,” Lim said.
It looks promising for MediCap to raise the fund. At the time of writing, they have achieved 30% of the minimum target of RM2,000,000. Lim believes a big part of doing this business is earning trust from the public and also investors.
“Our motive is not only on the projects, but we also hope through this crowdfunding campaign, the public can get access to the development of MediCap and have confidence in us. We want them to know that we are committed to providing a better health solution to society,” he continued.
Next steps for MediCap
There are many opportunities for MediCap to occupy for the next few years. Lim shares that they just confirmed two more 5-in-1 healthcare centres in two cities, Perak and Penang. They are also eyeing to get IPO listed within a few years.
“All these moves are essential in moving our healthcare institutions to the next level. We believe with the right plan, MediCap will be blooming and expanding tremendously,” he ended.
