Pak Mat Western is a well-known brand in Malaysia, especially for its marinated lamb. The brand’s marketing style is impressive, with a bold and extravagant approach that sets it apart from other local brands. Past advertisements have featured A-list celebrities like Lisa Surihani, Beto Kusyairi, and Yusri KRU, creating a strong connection with Malaysian audiences.
One of the brand’s entertaining advertisements, inspired by the film “Istanbul Aku Datang,” went viral on TikTok, attracting over 5 million views in just two days. Despite its success, the founder of Pak Mat Western remains a mystery, as he has never appeared on TV or revealed his identity. This mystery has sparked curiosity and discussion among netizens.
Who is the man behind this popular Pak Mat Western?
It’s a challenging question that requires careful investigation into the founding of Pak Mat Western. Many people mistakenly believe that the woman who frequently appeared in Pak Mat Western advertisements is the founder, but she is actually the Chief Strategy Officer of PMW Group.
The brand’s mysterious nature is evident on its official website, which lacks any information about the founder. Even a Google search yields limited results, adding to the brand’s enigmatic allure.
However, it is known that the brand is managed by siblings, with the name Pak Mat being a tribute to their father, who was a barber. Some sources suggest that the founders are relatively young, as indicated by a news article from Harian Metro in 2019 reporting on Pak Mat Western receiving the Qudwatur Rasul Shabab Award.
This award ceremony marked the only public appearance by the owner of Pak Mat Western since its inception. Nor Qaiyum Muhamad, one of the founders, represented the brand at the event to accept the award.
Pak Mat’s Western business began as a barbershop
Pak Mat Western’s business originally started as a small barber shop run by their father. Eventually, his children took over and transformed it into a restaurant.
They began in 2013 with only six tables but quickly gained popularity among Bukit Minyak patrons due to their affordable prices and flavorful Western dishes.
The restaurant’s reputation spread beyond Penang, attracting customers from other states. This led to the opening of branches in Johor, Kedah, and Perak, each serving over 500 customers daily.
To cater to online orders and takeaways, they expanded to include express marts in Alor Setar and Perak for lamb lovers.
The siblings grew the brand organically without bank loans.
Despite lacking higher education, the 29-year-old entrepreneur focused on self-improvement and growing the business without bank loans. The talented sibling entrepreneurs have achieved millions in sales despite their young age.
One strategy that significantly boosted sales was offering frozen products for customers who couldn’t visit the restaurants, making marinated products available for home cooking.
The brand now has thousands of agents nationwide and is the top marinated meat brand in Malaysia! Pak Mat Western has also introduced a new business venture, Mat Coffee, offering affordable coffee.
